Updating Your MMS Software for the GST Reduction

Effective Saturday, July 1, 2006, the Federal government is reducing the GST from 7% to 6%.  You will need to update your MMS software accordingly.  Here's how:

MMS (Manufacturing Management Software) provides for multiple effective dates and rates in determining taxation requirements. The Order Processing, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Accounts Receivable modules can be configured to use various tax codes. The tax codes, effective dates, and rates can be maintained in the TAX module. To maintain these tables:

  • Select the TAX application option from the main menu. Then select menu option  #1: Create/Update GST Codes.
  • Enter the required GST tax code and then enter #3: Effective Date and enter '\I' (backslash 'I')
  • Enter 1 July 06 and then enter 6 for the new rate percentage
  • Enter return <cr> to the UPDATE button

The MMS software will check the invoice or purchase order date against the effective date entered and apply the rates accordingly.

  Other items to consider:

  • If you have a multi-company environment running on your system, each company directory will need to be updated
  • Any third party solutions that interface with the MMS product should be reviewed
  • Any onsite development or any imports/exports of data should also be reviewed
  • Any custom software that requires modification with reference to the new GST rates will be billed at Peartree's current t&m rate
